Weekend Cooking: Snow Ice Cream

It would seem likely that after eating waaaaaaay too much on Thursday and having a great assortment of foods at our Thanksgiving dinner, I would share a recipe from that meal.

Instead, I'm going out on a limb, and sharing a recipe that I am guessing no one else will be sharing this week.

The week before Thanksgiving we were blessed (?!) with 11 inches of snow.  It was not a fun snow to shovel, but it was a beautiful snow to watch as it fell. Big fluffy flakes.

My oldest daughter decided to dig out her recipe for snow ice cream on Saturday morning for breakfast.  And that is what she ate twice that day.  Living in a rural area, we don't get worked up about our snow not being clean.

Snow Ice Cream

8 cups of snow
1 cup milk
1/3 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 pinch salt

Whisk milk, sugar, vanilla and salt. Add snow and stir in.
Eat.  Enjoy.

Yummm. Now you have to make that maple sugar candy that you drizzle onto a plate of snow. :))

I can't tell from her expression if the result was good....how did it turn out? I'd like to try that, with variations, maybe pureed blackberries stirred in, passion fruit syrup or ....

This is so exotic for me - it doesn't snow ever where I live - a very temperate climate! Cheers from Carole's Chatter!

We make sugar on snow - boil real maple syrup and pour it on snow. It is just delicious.

YUMM!! We only had a bit of sleet here in Kansas City, but I am looking forward to some good some days - and snow ice cream - in the future.

What fun! My niece in Hawaii would LOVE this recipe -- she's 16 and dying to see snow, but never considered eating some for breakfast :).

I've never had snow ice cream and I've lived in New England most of my life! I wonder why? Maybe because there's always a tub of ice cream in the freezer ready-made, no matter the season? Sounds tasty, though!

Is it me or does she not look pleased? Maybe she didn't expect it to be documented. LOL. To me it sounds like it would just taste like sugar water but I can't say I've ever tried it.
