Last night I told a friend of mine that I had started reading the Louise Penny books a year or two ago. In reality, it's been four years since I picked up the first book, Still Life.
I am finally done with the seventh book and what is most interesting is that with each book, I enjoy this series more and more.
And when I finish a book from this series I have good intentions of picking another one up right away, yet, I get easily distracted with other titles that are calling my name.
The crime in novel seven is the murder of an art critic that had been a childhood friend of Clara's. Although in childhood the two girls were close, that is definitely not the case in adulthood. And to make it even more upsetting, Lillian's body was found in Clara's garden on the night of her art show.
Inspector Gamache is on the case as he and his partner work through some of the repercussions of the attack they both survived in a previous novel.
I feel like Penny's books might be considered mysteries, but there is a lot of depth of character that continue to unfold throughout the series.
I already have book eight sitting right next to my bed. I hope I don't wait quite as long before picking it up. Book eighteen in the series will be published yet this fall, and I'm glad I have so many books still to be enjoyed.
