Gilly MacMillan's newest novel The Perfect Girl is full of secrets that are revealed with some twists and turns along the way.
Maria and her daughter, Zoe, are starting over. Zoe, a piano prodigy, has had to deal with the unthinkable: three of her friends were killed in a car accident and she was the driver. Now Maria is remarried to Chris, and the two have an infant daughter, Grace, together. Their lives appear picture perfect. But of course they are far from it.
Mamillan reveals bits and pieces of what happened the night of the accident and what Maria and Zoe's life is like now as the story unfolds
As the novel begins, Zoe and her new step-brother, Lucas, are giving a concert together, when the father of one of the crash victims interrupts the event. This sets about a chain of events that leaves Maria dead and many questions unanswered.
Much of the novel takes place after the concert with a variety of narrators telling the story allowing the reader to see from a variety of perspectives the events that occurred.
I didn't feel any huge surprises were revealed, but Macmillan's writing is easy to read, and I was instantly sucked in to this story. The Perfect Girl was hard to put down. There are enough twists and turns that I was interested from beginning to end.

I read this one a while back and liked it. I did have a bit of an issue trying to connect to the characters. It was hard for me somehow. I really, really liked this author's previous book, What She Knew, and felt this one wasn't quite as much to my taste. That being said, I will definitely read another book by this author and may reread this one at some point to see if my opinion improves. I've been reading a lot of these type of books and seem to be getting weary of them. A bit.
This one is making the rounds. Sounds like a book that would be hard to put down and along the lines of the many books of that ilk that are making the rounds this year.
