The first Monday in the month brings a look back at the books I read a decade ago. It's always fun to look back, and February 2009 had its share of memorable reads. These five are highlights from a decade ago:
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Forde - I loved this book - the setting and premise which moves from 1986 in Seattle to the time period surrounding the internment of Japanese Americans to camps.
Wesley the Owl by Stacy O'Brien - My husband read this at the same time I did- a rare occurrence - and I appreciated that I could discuss it with him. It also became quite obvious to me that I knew absolutely nothing about owls. Since then we've had friends who had a nest of owls near their home that made getting into and out of their house quite difficult for a time.
Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan - it took forever for me to pick this book up, and since I read it for the first time, I've read it a few more times with book clubs at school. Now my youngest daughter is reading it with a class at her school, and was excited that this was the book assigned.
True Colors by Kristin Hannah - I don't remember much about this Kristin Hannah book, but included it to show just how long she's been around as an author. Her career has really taken off after the publication of The Nightingale, but I've been reading her for books for a very long time.
Made From Scratch by Jenna Wogenrich - this is a non-fiction title I picked up that shares some ways of living a life more in keeping with how my grandmother lived as a young woman: homemade clothes, unplugging from technology (or not having any in the first place), gardening. I always think these things sound like great ideas, but have little skill or patience when attempting them in my own life.
What were you reading in February 2009? Last year at this time? Have you read any of these books?

I'm fairly certain that I've read TRUE COLORS, probably about the same time. I know I read several books by Hannah in her early days. I haven't read any of her books lately and need to do that. I have meant to read THE HOTEL...book for a long, long time. Maybe this year.
