Blast From the Past: February 2008

It's a new month which means it's time to dig out my old book journals and see what I was reading ten years ago.  These are the highlights from back in February 2008.

1.  Sick Girl by Amy Silverstein - I remember reading this one while running on the treadmill.  This is Silverstein's memoir about what she went through after suddenly going from a healthy young woman to someone who needed a heart transplant.  I also remember one of my friends thought she was whiny.  That wasn't the impression I got at all - and if I were in her shoes, I might whine, too. This past summer she published a second memoir about her second heart transplant, My Glory Was I Had Such Friends.

2.  The Opposite of Love by Julie Buxbaum - this is Buxbaum's first adult novel, and it was OK.  However, I have been super excited by Buxbaum's young adult novels that she's published recently and like to say that I "knew her" back when she was first published.

3.  Leap of Faith by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley - it's a little interesting that I'm reading The War I Finally Won by Bradley right now with my daughter.  I so love everything that KBB writes, I just wish she would writer faster.

4.  The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney - here's what I remember ten years later: this book generated a lot of buzz, it was a great winter read because the setting is cold and wintry: the Northwest territories, and there's a murder which means there was definitely some suspense.

5.  Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher- I've yet to see the show on Netflix (and have no desire) and I didn't just rave about this book.  I remember the general storyline, but not details.  It is a hard book.  Depressing.  Sad.  Dealing with a tough topic.  It's not surprising to me that teen readers eat it up.

And, those are my highlights from a decade ago.  What were you reading back in 2008?

I've heard of some of these, but I've not read any of them. Think I might have thought about that 13 book. Somehow never started it. It's fun to see what we were reading back when, isn't it? And sometimes they stick with us and sometimes not. LOL

Oh, wow, Sick Girl is completely new to me and sounds like something I would enjoy reading! I wish I'd kept better reading "records," so to speak, before I started blogging; I would love to be able to look back this far and see what I was reading!
