At Christmas I never really have had anyone write a list that included books. But they always get some, and are usually pleasantly surprised by what I pick.
When they were little, there was always a new Christmas picture book to unwrap. But now, it's a little harder.
Here are some titles that will be wrapped underneath our tree:
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone by JK Rowling, the illustrated edition.
This is still something I'd like to pick up for my fourth grade niece, but right now it's $42 on Amazon and only available from third party sellers. I'm going to have to see if it is ever available again from Amazon for a better price.
2. Transit Maps of the World
I love looking at maps, and this is a big collection of different train maps from all over the world. A definite coffee table book that kids and adults will pick up and browse.
3. The Disney Book
Everything DK does is worth looking at and this is a book that all three of my girls will want to look at. There are pictures/photographs, but there is also text which makes it full of great information but not really geared at the little girls who want a princess book.
4. Downton Abbey: A Celebration
I started watching this with my girls a few weeks ago, and they are getting into it. This is a beautiful book to compliment the show.
5. Young House Love
My girls all enjoy watching different shows on HGTV and have come up with a few good ideas we have implemented in our home. I've looked at some of the pages in this book (I love the Look Inside feature on Amazon) and can imagine them finding a lot of new ideas they want to try as well.
6. Blockopedia: Minecraft
My youngest daughter has become totally obsessed by Minecraft. This is a beautiful coffee table book that she can spend hours looking at.
All these books are big beautiful books that adults or kids could enjoy. The hard part will be deciding who gets which book. Mostly, all my girls would enjoy any of these.

My hubby is getting Ivan Doig's last book. He loves his writing.
My oldest daughter is a fan of The Lunar Chronicles series so I am giving her a copy of WINTER signed by Marissa Meyer.
I gave my mom BEING MORTAL by Atul Gawande. She leads a class at church on [reparing for your ending so I hope she likes this.
My son-in-law is getting the 2nd Star Wars Shakespeare book.
I am giving my youngest daughter a celebrity memoir. She has read several this year and seem to enjoy them.
I am giving my brother-in-law my copy of the audiobook of The Martian.
And I am giving my in-laws a gift certificate to our local used book store, which they mine for cheap novels to take on trips.
When I was in junior high I remember saving up my money to buy Harlequin romances!! They were only $3.50 a piece and my friend and I would go to the mall bookstore, remember Walden's? We'd each buy a book and then swap them at the end of the week. The last time my kids bought books on their own were from the school book sales. It just doesn't happen anymore. My son did ask me for the Leah Remini Scientology book and I just looked at him like he was nuts. He just left the Mormon church (long story) so I certainly don't want him going down that route.
