We just returned from a week in Puerto Rico - and it was fantastic! We met friends there for a few days and enjoyed hiking at the El Yunque National Forest (a rainforest), exploring Del Morro, walking around Old San Juan, kayaking, horseback riding, relaxing on the beach, authentic Puerto Rican food, and the hot and sweaty weather.
And I even found time for reading. I enjoyed several books which I'm sharing below.
First some vacation pictures:
And now for the books:
Bad Summer People by Emma Rosenblum - I love this book, which is perfect for the summer. Several wealthy couples gather on Fire Island each summer. There are secrets, gossip, and even a suspicious death. I love a good soap opera and this book feels like one.
The Seven Year Split by Ashley Poston is a fast read, fun romance that involves time travel. Clementine inherits her aunt's apartment - a place her aunt has always told her exists in a pinch in time, sometimes moving ahead or back seven years. When Clementine walks in to her apartment one day and finds a strange man in her kitchen the two are attracted to each other, but they can't stay in this pinch for forever.
Zero Days by Ruth Ware - I haven't read all of Ware's books, but after devouring this one, I need to read her backlist. Jack and Gabe are penetration specialists, hired by companies to test their security systems. When Jack is arrested one night after a job goes horribly wrong, she arrives home to find her husband has been murdered- and that she is the prime suspect. I couldn't put this one down.
The Rachel Incident by Caroline O'Donoghue - set in Ireland (often not one of my favorite locations for books), this one was a slow start, but I hung with it and ended up really enjoying it. Rachel and her best friend James live together in Ireland where their lives become intertwined with Dr. Fred Byrne, Rachel's professor and his wife. By book's end you'll understand the significance of the title.
I'm not sure I can keep up this reading pace, but I'm hopeful that I'll keep picking quality books like I have been.
