Thursday Children's Lit: Very Good Hats

When I come across a book like Very Good Hats, it makes me long for the days I had elementary students I could read to every day, or my own daughters who I could curl up with before bedtime and read with.  This book is such a delight.

Most kids - and probably most adults- can relate to placing something on their heads that is decidedly not a hat, but pretending that it is indeed a hat.  That's what happens in Very Good Hats.  A bowl could be a hat.  Or a bike helmet.  Or a pile of leaves.  A stack of books (as a librarian I frown on this one). A cat.

There is no shortage of suggestions and examples about what could be used as a hat.  And by the end of the story, I felt a little like I should look around and see what I could turn into a hat myself.

A true pleasure to read aloud.
