I've been hearing about Colleen Hoover for quite a while now and I will readily admit that I really haven't been anxious to pick anything up that she's written. Sometimes I just have to buck the trend, and since it seems that she is "the author" right now that everyone wants to read, I haven't been inclined to read her books myself.
Until this weekend.
This weekend I picked up It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover and read it so quickly- basically in just one sitting. Hoover does have an engaging writing style and books I devoured had a pretty important message about the issue of domestic abuse. Once I finished It Ends With Us, I bought It Starts With Us while picking up groceries at Wal-Mart.
And I finished that book this morning. So, am I now a CoHo reader? Well, I do think I'd like to read something else she's written just to compare a bit. I don't think I'll drop everything again and read two books in a row by her in less than forty-eight hours. But, the fact that I felt compelled to do so should show how good her books are. She's a writer with a huge (and growing) fan base, and this newest book does a good job of following up on the way people who suffer abuse continue to feel the aftershocks even after that abuser isn't with them all the time.
I felt that especially in It Ends With Us the ending was realistic and didn't sugarcoat things or have things nicely tied up by book's end. I can see why there was a follow up to that book, but now even though things seem to be more resolved I would still like hearing from Lily and Atlas again.
If you are one of the few who hasn't yet read Colleen Hoover and you need something that is thoroughly engaging, I highly recommend trying her out. You might be as surprised as I was once you start reading.
