Monday Mini-Reviews: Wreck

 When I read Sandwich by Catherine Newman I liked it, but didn't rave about it.  And yet, I've been thinking about that book since then.  When I heard Wreck was coming out, I immediately ordered it.

Newman has knocked it out of the park. I loved getting to hear from Rocky again.  A couple years have passed since Sandwich ended, and Rocky's dad has moved in after her mom died.  Her daughter, Willa, has also moved back home after college, and Rocky is enjoying the added activity in her home.

When she comes across an article about a tragic accident that killed a classmate of her son Jamie's, Rocky becomes obsessed with knowing more about what happened to this young man.  

And Rocky has her own potential health problem that is also keeping her occupied as she worries about the future, and all the unknowns that are out of our control.

Rocky is still funny and Newman is still providing small bits of wisdom in this story which I absolutely loved.  I'm not sure if we'll get to hear from Rocky again, but I'm hoping that we do.  If you haven't read Sandwich yet, pick it up.  And then continue to get to know this family a bit better in Wreck.
