Monday Mini-Reviews: Suspense

I love a good mystery, novel of suspense, or psychological thriller - especially as I've read a few books this summer that I really needed to follow up with something that didn't require a lot of heavy thinking.

One of my favorite series (and one of the few that I'm current with) has just published its seventeenth installment.  This was a fast read.  Kate Burkholder is the chief of police who left her Amish family years ago.  There is another crime involving the death of a young Amish man, his best friend, and a young woman that Kate is investigating.  This was such a fast read. I ended up devouring it in one sitting.  If you haven't read any in this series, it's not necessary to start with the first one, but getting to know the characters and their backgrounds in the earlier books has been a great way to enjoy this series.

I have enjoyed Jo Piazza's previous books, and this one was highly recommended on Instagram.  I was lucky enough to have an ARC of it, and also quickly devoured this one. I'd never heard the term "tradwife" before reading about this book, but I quickly came to understand that Rebecca Sommers, a "traditional" instagram influencer, has created a picture perfect life for herself online.  The reality is far different.  When Rebecca's husband is found murdered, she instantly becomes a suspect.  Lizzie, "Bex's" best friend from college, who she has just reunited with, knows that Bex needs her help.  She starts nosing around to try and figure out what really happened. This one was a lot of fun and there were a few twists I definitely did not see coming.

I've still got a few weeks of summer left, although time is winding down.  I've been working on "school stuff" for a while now, which means my focus hasn't been all that great and my ability to sit down for any span of time also seems to be non-existent.
