A Handful Of Fantastic Fiction

I haven't done a very good job about blogging about the books I've read this summer, but I have read so many great books.  And I still have stacks of them I'm excited to dive into (hopefully) before school starts.

Here is just a handful of book I've raced through and shared with others already.

Part of your World by Abby Jimenez - I love a good rom com and this author is one I'd been meaning to read for a while. I still haven't read her entire backlist but I'm thoroughly enjoying what she has to offer and I am also liking the Minnesota/Iowa setting and references.

The New Neighbor by Karen Cleveland- Her first book Need to Know was a hit with my husband and me (and the many people we loaned the book to), and I've read everything Cleveland has written.  I love the D.C. setting and the CIA/FBI suspense filled storylines that she is so good at developing. This one was a true page turner and the only thing that prevented me from looking ahead was the fact that I was reading an e-galley and looking ahead is more difficult than paging back and forth in a physical book.

The Measure by Nikki Erlick -this debut novel and Read With Jenna pick was thought-provoking and I could see how book clubs would find a great deal to talk about.  The story grew on me as I read, but I also felt like there was a little bit of an agenda that the author was trying to get across.

Upgrade by Blake Crouch - I love that I can devour Crouch's books which are out of my comfort zone and genres I enjoy, and be thoroughly enthralled with his stories.  This one was so interesting and suspenseful - and thought provoking- that I need to find someone whose read it so we can talk about it.  If you want something that reads fast, this is definitely one to pick up.

True Biz by Sara Novic- I read Novic's first book several years ago now and was thoroughly impressed with it.  Novic, who is deaf, writes a novel that centers around a residential school for deaf students.  It reminded me a bit of Bruce Holsinger's The Gifted School and I love any education-adjacent story.  The information given between chapters about the deaf and the development of sign language is thoroughly interesting as well.

These five are all different enough that I feel like anyone could find something they'd like in this handful of books.  I've got about three weeks left until I'm back at work (and a quick girls trip to NYC for a few days scheduled in the middle of it), so I'm going to keep working my way through as many books as possible.

I'm reading The Measure now and while I find the premise so interesting and am enjoying the story, I agree the author seems to have her own agenda. The one about the deaf school also sounds good to me; thanks for sharing.

I got Upgrade as a Book of the Month pick - will read it soon. I have The Measure checked out of the library - will read it soon. And I just got the notice that I can pick up The New Neighbor at the library - guess I'll read it soon. I've got so many new books on hold at my new library. I've figured out how to get on the hold list when they order the book and so I'm often first in line. How fun is that! I couldn't do that before. Anyway, good to hear what you thought of these three.
