NonFiction November Week 3:Be The Expert/Ask the Expert/Become the Expert

I love nonfiction November, and yet last week I got so bogged down in work stuff that I didn't manage the Week 2 post.  I'm back this week, though, with a few different topics I seem to want to read books about.  I'm by no means an expert on any topic, but after a few years of participating in Nonfiction November it took a little thinking to come up with some new topics to focus on.  I'm a creature of habit and it seems like I continue to gravitate to the same topics.

So this year I found a few new topics to share.  As a lifelong Iowa resident, I don't always find very many books (fiction or nonfiction) set in my state. I picked these six nonfiction books to share because there are some interesting things that aren't well known, but perhaps should be.  I've read five of the six so far; The Orphans of Davenport was published this summer and is still on my TBR.

I also enjoy reading about television.  There are countless books about TV shows and biographies and memoirs by actors and TV personalities that I've enjoyed over the years.  I still remember checking out The Mandrell Family Album about the Barbara, Louise and Irlene Mandrell, country singers and sisters who had their own variety show in the 80s.  I also bought my own copy of Dallas which featured photos from the show as well as the backstories of all the characters, making them seem as though their lives weren't a thing of fiction at all.

I just started reading Katie Couric's memoir, Going There, which I'm enjoying a lot.  This has taken me down memory lane as I enjoyed reading Top of the Morning a few years ago, as well as the other titles about different sitcoms in the 90s.  I still have a few TV related books stacked up at home to read, but which ones am I missing?

I can't wait to find time this evening to look through other NonFiction November posts and see what other topics people enjoy reading about. Veronica at The Thousand Book Project is this week's host.

Love the idea of highlighting where you live. I’ve read the Bill Bryson title a long time ago and I’ve just bought the Friends book for my BFF who is a big fan for Christmas :) Thanks for sharing your recommendations

I love to read about places I travel to, so I will be keeping an eye on this list for my next visit to your state.

So many of these are on my TBR pile already! Top of the Morning is at the top just because I'm fascinated by television production and what goes on behind the scenes. Little Heathens has been sitting on my shelf for longer than I care to admit, but I just love farm stories. And The Boys in the Bunkhouse just sounds so horrifying.

Fantastic list of books this week!

Oh Iowa, cool! I lived 6 years in Dubuque.
Along time ago, I read Postville: A Clash of Cultures in Heartland America, by Stephen G. Bloom, which I really enjoyed.
