2022 Is Looking Promising

This Thanksgiving weekend was not full of reading at my house.  We had lots of fun and did get a few things accomplished that were on my "to-do" list, but reading? Not so much.

However, I did decide to read a 2022 release that I had waiting for me on NetGalley.  And what a pleasant experience that was!

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus was a delightful read.  I fell in love with Elizabeth Zott, a female scientist who, because she lives in the 60's can't get anyone to take her seriously.

Despite the plans Elizabeth has for her life, and her dogged determination at achieving them, it becomes apparent that not everything goes exactly as planned.

In some ways Lessons In Chemistry is a love story, and in others, a tragedy.  I absolutely loved Elizabeth Zott whose quirkiness made me smile to myself while reading.  I loved the 60s setting and Garmus' ability to show the way women were treated during this time in a way that should get readers thinking. I loved Calvin Evans who had suffered hardship in his own life and whose quirkiness matched Elizabeth's.  I loved Mad, the brilliant child who didn't fit the mold that society had for her, either.  And I loved Supper at Six the television show Elizabeth hosted that was unlike any cooking show to ever grace the airwaves and helped women in the audience see the possibility in themselves.

This is the first 2022 release I've picked up and if Lessons In Chemistry is any indication, 2022 is looking like a very promising reading year.
