Childrens, Middle Grade and Young Adult: Looking Ahead

One thing I enjoy almost as much as reading books is planning to read them. And that includes learning about new books coming out.  I have plenty of childrens, middle grade and YA books on my TBR in addition to all the "grown up books" waiting for me.

Here are just a few I can't wait to see come out:

Above The Rim: How Elgin Baylor Changed Basketball by Jen Bryant and Frank Morrison due out October 6, 2020
Summary taken from Amazon:

Hall-of-famer Elgin Baylor was one of basketball’s all-time-greatest players—an innovative athlete, team player, and quiet force for change. One of the first professional African-American players, he inspired others on and off the court. But when traveling for away games, many hotels and restaurants turned Elgin away because he was black. One night, Elgin had enough and staged a one-man protest that captured the attention of the press, the public, and the NBA.
Above the Rim is a poetic, exquisitely illustrated telling of the life of an underrecognized athlete and a celebration of standing up for what is right.

This one is especially dear to my heart as Elgin Baylor was on of my dad's favorite basketball players when he was a boy growing up in Minneapolis and would often go to see the Minneapolis Lakers play.  Baylor gave my star-struck dad a ride home from one of the NBA games, which cemented my dad's love of him.

The Canyon's Edge by Dusti Bowling due out September 8, 2020
Synopsis taken from Amazon:

One year after a random shooting changed their family forever, Nora and her father are exploring a slot canyon deep in the Arizona desert, hoping it will help them find peace. Nora longs for things to go back to normal, like they were when her mother was still alive, while her father keeps them isolated in fear of other people. But when they reach the bottom of the canyon, the unthinkable happens: A flash flood rips across their path, sweeping away Nora's father and all of their supplies.

Suddenly, Nora finds herself lost and alone in the desert, facing dehydration, venomous scorpions, deadly snakes, and, worst of all, the Beast who has terrorized her dreams for the past year. If Nora is going to save herself and her father, she must conquer her fears, defeat the Beast, and find the courage to live her new life.

Majesty: American Royals II by Katharine McGee  due out September 1, 2020
Summary taken from Amazon:
Power is intoxicating. Like first love, it can leave you breathless. Princess Beatrice was born with it. Princess Samantha was born with less. Some, like Nina Gonzalez, are pulled into it. And a few will claw their way in. Ahem, we're looking at you Daphne Deighton.

As America adjusts to the idea of a queen on the throne, Beatrice grapples with everything she lost when she gained the ultimate crown. Samantha is busy living up to her "party princess" persona...and maybe adding a party prince by her side. Nina is trying to avoid the palace--and Prince Jefferson--at all costs. And a dangerous secret threatens to undo all of Daphne's carefully laid "marry Prince Jefferson" plans.

A new reign has begun....
