First Monday in March: Blast From the Past

I love looking back at my old reading journals, yet only seem to get around to it when it's time to get my monthly blast from the past post written.  March 2009 was an amazing month of reading:

The Help by Kathryn Stockett - I can't believe I read this book ten years ago. The details have faded, but this book probably is in my list of Top Ten Favorite Books of all time.  Shortly after reading it I was able to see Stockett speak and she was completely delightful.  I am not giving up hope that she's got another bestseller in her.

The Year The Swallows Came Early by Kathryn Fitzmaurice - this is a beautiful middle grade fiction book. Groovy is eleven when lots of things begin to go wrong in her life: her father is in jail, her best friend is having problems, and the swallows migrate especially early this spring.

Corner Shop by Roopa Farooki - this is a little bit of a family drama set in England. Lucky, his mother Delphine and her ex-father-in-law Zaki are the central characters in this story - all looking to make their dreams come true.

Saving Graces by Elizabeth Edwards - I loved reading this memoir.  I always enjoy a good political memoir, but more than that, I really felt like Elizabeth was easy to relate to and we could have sat down for a cup of coffee and become friends.  Learning about her death shortly after I read this completely saddened me.

Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen - Dessen has been around for years and she is still one of my go-to authors when girls come in asking for a good book.  I haven't read everything she's written, but what I've read, I've always enjoyed.

How about you? What were you reading last year in March? Ten years ago?

I can't believe it's been so long since I read THE HELP either. Wow. Do you think that will be her only book? I'm thinking maybe.
