TLC Book Tour: The Other Mother

I can always count on Carol Goodman to bring a little creepiness and suspense to my reading.  The Other Mother is her latest novel and it didn't disappoint.

Two new mothers, both with babies named Chloe become friends as they attend a support group for women suffering postpartum depression.  Both have husbands who are a little older than them.  Their houses are similar.  Their looks are even similar as they become friendlier with each other. One of them secures a job with a well known author as an archivist and takes her baby, leaving her husband, and assuming the other woman's identity.

This is a crazy ride of a story as I tried to determine if Laurel was really Laurel or if Laurel was really Daphne, but suffering a psychotic break.  There are secrets that both women have, and there are secrets that are uncovered in the author's past that tie in with the identity of both of these women.

Throw in a mental hospital, an abandoned tower in the Catskills, and past secrets and this is a book that was impossible to put down.

I've read all of Goodman's work and enjoy some more than others - her first, Lake of Dead Languages is still my absolute favorite- and The Other Mother is a good addition to her body of work.

It's hard for me to believe that fans of Gone Girl or other psychological thrillers don't know about Goodman, but she is definitely an author these readers will enjoy.

Thanks to TLC Book Tours for providing a copy of this book for my review.  All opinions are, as always, my own.

I'm looking forward to reading this one as I've enjoyed others by Goodman. I still have to read the first one, but I actually own it now. I think you told me it was your favorite. Her books all have that Gothic feel to them.
