TLC Book Tour: A Mind Of Your Own

A Mind of Your Own by Kelly Brogan, M.D., is what I would classify a self-help book dealing with the issue of mental health.  A few weeks ago I read and reviewed The Well Path by Jame Heskett, M.D., and could see myself in nearly every page Heskett wrote.  A Mind of Your Own didn't speak to me that personally, but I still felt a connection with the topic that Brogan covers.

I would be the first to say that there are too many people that have been diagnosed with anxiety and depression and also too many people medicated for these issues.  I have had my own issues with anxiety - something that I can trace back to my childhood and have been dealing with ever since.

Brogan contends that these conditions are not about a neurochemical disorder, but instead is a "complex inflammatory disease."  Brogan's ideas have certainly started me thinking about the role that diet and sleep play in my own mental health. The fact that there are more people now than ever who are prescribed medicine for their anxiety or depression gives credibility to Brogan's belief and research that our lifestyle today has done nothing to help our mental health.

A Mind Of Your Own gives research based information on anxiety and depression and on ways to help fix these issues without using medicine.  Although Brogan's advice is detailed, I can assure you that it is well thought out - and has left me with a great deal to look at in my own life and address.

Thanks to TLC Books for providing a copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Improper diet and sleep have certainly affected me in the past so I'm sure I'd find helpful advice in this book.

Thanks for being a part of the tour.
