Middle Grade Lit: Candle Island: Five Star

Lauren Wolk is such a fantastic author.  Everything of hers that I've read has been so, so well done.

And Candle Island is no exception.

Candle Island, a tiny island off the coast of Maine, is the new home to Lucretia and her mother who have moved to escape the relentless reporters who want to talk to her mother, a successful (but reclusive) artist.  They also need a fresh start after the death of Lucretia's father - a place where they can't see him everywhere they look.

The ocean breezes and rocky shores are new to the mother and daughter, and so are the secrets that the island holds.  As they try to fit in and become a part of this tiny community that live there year round, Lucretia and her mother soon become enmeshed in the issues facing the islanders - and have to deal with some of their own.

I loved this book so, so much.  And because I am not yet a Lauren Wolk completist, I want to pick up another of her books soon.
